LUX Art Scholars for 2020 Named

Monday, January 20, 2020
On Sunday, January 19th, the LUX Center for the Arts awarded 39 LPS students with $500 scholarships through the LUX Art Scholar Program.
LUX Center for the Arts has been offering scholarships for low-income youth to take art classes since the early 1990’s. Two years ago we met with staff at Lincoln Public Schools and crafted a new way to bring these art class scholarships to Lincoln kids – the LUX Art Scholar Program. Thanks to the Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation we were able to offer 39 students each a $500 scholarship this year. These students were from low-income (Title 1) schools. The winning students were selected by their school’s art teachers based their artistic ability and the possibility for this scholarship to be transformative in their life. With the scholarship, these students will be able to take almost a year’s worth of classes at the LUX.

This program has expanded over the past two years because of generous sponsorships from the Pace Woods Foundation, the Peed Foundation, Ameritas Insurance and Union Bank & Trust. This program is sustaining our mission and helping us to create the next generation of artists and creative leaders in our community.
