The LUX is excited to welcome two new Artists-in-Residence for the 2021-2022 year – Anthony Park Kascak and Julia Leggent.
Anthony Park Kascak (he/they, b. 1993) is a first generation Korean-American from Colorado. He received his MFA in Studio Art at the University of Arkansas School of Art, and his BFA in Art Practices as well as his BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has attended residencies and exhibited in the United States and abroad, in locations such as Germany, China, and South Korea.
“My work explores the experience and perception of interpersonal relationships, as well as the role that touch and introspection has in my visual arts practice and everyday life. I am interested in pairing the act of looking with the sensation of touch through assemblages of intimate photographs, ceramic fragments and frames, and digitally fabricated surfaces. The negotiation of these installations direct the viewer to consider the extent in which distance, intimacy, and vulnerability fluctuate within psychological spaces.”
Julia Leggent is an image-based artist that grew up in Norton, Kansas, a small town located 10 minutes from the Nebraska border. She received her B.F.A. in Painting from Fort Hays State University in 2017 and her M.F.A from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2021. Julia explores personal and universal topics through detailed paintings and drawings that typically operate at life scale. The images of flesh, pills, trash, and other objects follow her routines, thoughts, and worries but are meant to be widely relatable. With each of her works, she hopes to bring awareness to social, political, and feminine themes while drawing the viewer in and inciting interest in specific aspects of everyday life.
