Artist Bio:
HP Bloomer was born and raised in Texas and attended the University of North Texas where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2007 and Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2011. While growing up, his father was an architect and painter, and his mother was a potter and art educator. While working on his degree in his teens and twenties, he was involved in the Texas punk scene and toured and gigged with bands. Inspired by the DIY ethos, his work focuses on highly decorated utilitarian forms that draw inspiration from his interest in architecture and uses abstract designs inspired by interior fashion and design to highlight the intersection between the manmade world and often overlooked indigenous plant species. His most recent work explores the flora of North Texas and his personal narrative. He has been an Artist-in-Residence at The Carbondale Clay Center, Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, and Cobb Mountain Art & Ecology Project.

Artist Statement:
The primary objective of my work is to create thoughtful, personal compositions that explore relationships with the world around us.
My forms are rooted in an interest in architecture and design, and their concepts for organizing space through proportion, segmentation, and the use of color and surface.
Divergent, contrasting, surfaces, and patterns explore design elements and metaphors for the intersection of urban development and nature. These surfaces include ecological inspirations contrasted with geometric patterns to create a play between divisions that reference structures, neighborhoods, and local ecology. My floral patterns are designed to highlight local native plants and the importance of relationships with nature by highlighting indigenous species of plants.
These busy contemplative, functional, objects highlight the world in which we live by exploring ways we often segment, structure, and compartmentalize our worlds and curated experiences.
